Anne
Marie was born in Blenheim, New Zealand in 1955, her parents were assisted immigrants from the Netherlands.
From a very young age she expressed a wish to be an artist.
John S.
Parker was Anne Marie’s art teacher at Marlborough Girls College. He recognised
her ability and gave her valuable encouragement. Anne Marie attended Ilam Art
School in 1974, then she diverted into horticulture, marriage and motherhood. In
1985 she made her first journey to the Netherlands, and around this time Anne
Marie resumed drawing and painting. In 1987 she exhibited her work for the first
time in Timaru, with Temuka artist John Kelman. Anne Marie became a born again
Christian in 1989 and continued working and exhibiting as a full time artist
until moving to Wellington in 1993.
Anne
Marie joined Pablo’s Art Studio in 2002. She also has studio space close to her
home in Lyall Bay. After a pause of more than 8 years, Anne Marie has again
picked up her brushes and paints in earnest.
