My history as an artist spans at least three decades with textile and graphic design courses under my belt by the time I was 30.
By the end of the graphic design course I had a severe burnout and was officially introduced to the mental health team at Wellington Hospital where I did the day programme and saw a counsellor once a week. During this period I managed some freelance illustration and mask making for the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
Then came Pablos. The co-ordinators were looking for people with mental health disabilities to join. I suddenly found a place where I could produce artwork with lots of positive encouragement and no mad deadlines.
Over the past five-six years I have advanced in the range of media I use to produce artwork: from acrylic to oils to watercolours and colour pencils. these recent paintings of women are produced in oil, acrylic, watercolour and colour pencil. I have found exploring these images of women inspiring and fun to create.
