Michael Cox

Painting and creating art freely is a tremendous charge to the soul. Making art this way is a real change for me after working for thirty years as an advertising art director – a world where business incentives drive the creative process.

Although my graphic art training and professional experience still inform my painting in terms of strong presentation, I have moved from a world of formal graphical images to a much wider, more organic exploration of art and design.

I find it stimulating to work in a studio environment with artists of all ages. I see my style changing all the time.

I retain a romantic view of life which is reflected in my work. I strive to create a certain mood in a painting and I like using intense colours - blue and yellow are current favorites,  Composition is important to me as well as pattern and texture.

Artists who inspire me include: Don Binney, Andrew Wyeth and Salvador Dali.
