Pauline Jones

At the moment I’m doing large – almost floor to ceiling – explorative work on paper using all sorts of materials, including paint, pastel, charcoal and ink.

I’m really enjoying the physicality of doing the work it’s a big change from the small 3D mythical characters and animals I was creating last year.

I like getting my hands dirty, experimenting with colour. When I’m working I go to another world and the hours race by.

I started working in the arts as a carver working with: Oamaru stone, whale bone, ebony and even old fence posts, For a while I carved at a workshop called 'unit 3' and I worked at Bone Works. During that period I sold my carvings, along with other jewelry, on the street. I would often stain bone in Henna and use mother of pearl, shell and silver rivets in my work.

If I won the lotto I would travel the world, buying art supplies and studying art from the great masters.
