New paintings & sculpture ...

Don Smith is a self taught artist of Maori descent – Ngati Porou / Ngati Kahungunu. He has exhibited throughout NZ since 1990, holds a BA in Theatre & Film from Victoria University and lives in Wellington.

During 2010 Smith has been working on a series of paintings made on found materials – 100% – painted in a monochromatic minimalist style that for him explores the changing balance within our cultural & sexual personas.

When asked to describe the work in 100% Don Smith replied … I had a dream of hope that transposed itself as a recurrent motif  and was inspired by the Golden Maori Mean, the Balance of the Sexes and something about something …
