TOUCHY FEELY
JULY 21 – AUGUST 6 2011
Fraser Hoffe and Michael Cox at ROAR!
Fraser Hoffe and Michael Cox are both artists at Pablos Art Studios with very different but complimentary art practices.
After years working as an art director and illustrator in the heady and hectic world of advertising Michael Cox now enjoys the relaxation of exploring the natural world with his paint brush. His work retains the fine graphic quality of his earlier practice but is free to explore a supernatural and subjective world of his own choosing.

Fraser Hoffe’s 3 dimensional landscapes depict a dynamic physical geography. His scrunched paper sculptures mirror the hills around Wellington and remind the viewer of our physical and emotional connection with the place we call home. ‘The shapes remind me of different things – like walking places I know, destinations, climbing.’

The scrunched and shellacked paintings are attached to the wall by a single nail and can be spun to hang at odd angles. They invite interaction and exemplify Fraser’s experimental approach to making, constantly experimenting and trying a range of forms and materials.

In a recent interview Fraser noted the positive effect that attending to a creative process has had. ‘I was able to gather together all the things I liked about myself and glue them together.’
Join us at ROAR! on the opening night 5.30 – 7pm Thursday July 21 to meet the artists.

ROAR! gallery is dedicated to the sale and promotion of Outsider Art. We exhibit art motivated by personal concerns and histories rather than work that operates within established traditions.
