WELLINGTON SCENES a collection of paintings by John McKenzie

John McKenzie’s work shows us a Wellington we know and love. He enjoys painting familiar scenes of the central city, creating compositions of cars and high rises as well as touching scenes such as a mother helping her child to cross the road.
McKenzie began a serious interest in art in 1975, when ill health meant he gave up working. He studied through the Correspondence school, gaining a higher school certificate. He then studied life drawing for four years through Whitirea Polytechnic.
The exhibition has been created over the last two years. McKenzie works in acrylics on canvas, and states;
“I enjoy doing cityscapes because all of their shapes and colours are not usually seen in other genres. Besides, they really allow me to exploit colour and composition, which are the two things most important to me and which I gained grounding in through my studies.
I hope you enjoy viewing the exhibition as much as I enjoyed completing it.”
