INSERT THOUGHTS [HERE] celebrates the art of designers by showcasing the work of what is sometimes referred to as low brow art – art that has a figurative focus, which cultivates narrative, and strongly values technical skills.
It brings together eight Wellington artists who work as illustrators, graphic designers, architects, animators and 3D designers, who are use to fulfilling the commercial brief of a client. In this show the designers have the opportunity to be their own client … to use their skills in the creation of visual material and communication of ideas, to fulfil their own brief. The artworks are influenced by things in popular culture such as, grafitti, retro illustration, street art, sideshow and circus art, folk art, manga, and advertising. They may reflect the artists’ personal thoughts, their view of the world or an insight into their personality … but one thing’s for sure, it’s going to look darn good!
Exhibiting artists include: Paul Bradley, Kiran X, Poppy Moore, Peter Marment, Sam Broad, Sharyn Young, Stephen Templer, and Chris Barrand. |
