Teaching My Dog New Tricks Michele Irving & Flight of the Butterfly Tanya Stewart
|
|
Teaching My Dog New Tricks springs from a dislike for vacuuming and a love of playing with luscious fabrics, shapes and decoration techniques. Michele Irving, a prolific maker of handmade fabric sculptures, creates a world in which animals feature predominately - they have parties, drink cups of tea, celebrate life and dream!
She uses fabrics, embroidery, beads and buttons to release cats and dogs from their usual domestic realm and lets them roam free through the gallery. Her works draws inspiration from dark fairy tales, but the finished pieces are light, bright and humorous.
Flight of the Butterfly by Tanya Stewart uses visual metaphors to illustrate a deeply personal journey of change, integration and transformation. The show is about making sense of the world and living in it understanding the self and how you experience life the cocoon and the butterfly its about metamorphosis.
This mixed media show includes oil painting, silk painting and paper mache works. Tanya is expressive in her use of vibrant colours. She is currently training at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design.
