“This is a celebration of the diversity of women and the joy of being ourselves even when (or especially when) this is not the norm. It celebrates our community, our aging and our uniqueness”. Monica Moreno. |
Where there is Hair there is Joy … is an exhibition which pokes fun at the dominate message beauty and fashion industries tell us about Hair. In a world where women are expected to be ageless, pore-less and most definitely hairless, artists Monica Moreno, Leanne Taylor and Linda Te Rakau Tilyard explore Hair and all its different social, historical and cultural connotations. These artists who “choose to remain in our natural form’” have as many different approaches to art making as there are different hair-styles and locations in the body!
It's a show that destroys the conventional relationships we have with Hair, full of large paintings, clay sculptures and collaged artworks symbolic of the wild and untamed nature of women.
Join us for the opening celebrations on Thursday 29th October, 5.30 -7 pm.
